Privacy policy
In short: this website sets no cookies and tracks nothing. Clozo reads the captions Google Meet shows you and translates them once you have agreed. Captions and translations are not stored anywhere; translation runs on Google Cloud in the EU, and the transcript stays in your browser. If you buy a plan, I only store what your license needs.

2. This website
Hosting
The website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you visit it, Vercel processes technically necessary connection data: IP address, date and time, requested address, referrer and browser identifier. This is needed to deliver the site and to protect it against attacks (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Vercel processes this data on my behalf and deletes the logs according to its retention periods.
No cookies, no tracking
The website sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and uses no analytics, advertising or social media services. Fonts and images are served from the same server; nothing is loaded from third parties.
Chrome Web Store
The “Add to Chrome” buttons lead to Google's Chrome Web Store, where Google's privacy policy applies.
Contact
If you email or call me, I process your details to answer your request (Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR) and delete them once it is settled, unless statutory retention periods apply.
3. The Clozo Chrome extension
Access to web pages
Clozo runs only on meet.google.com. There, in your browser, the extension reads the live captions Meet shows, with the name of the person speaking, and the controls, to tell whether you are in a call and whether captions are on. If you want (setting "Turn on captions automatically"), Clozo switches on Meet's captions. Clozo does not read audio, video, chat or other content of the call. Clozo has no access to other websites.
Data on your device
- Settings such as target language, size and position are kept in Chrome's extension storage. If Chrome sync is on, Google syncs these settings across your devices.
- A random installation ID, your consent to translation and the state of your allowance stay on this device only. The installation ID works like a password for your license and allowance, so the extension never shows it; for requests it shows a support code derived from it.
- The live transcript (captions with speaker names and translations) is kept only in your browser's session storage. Websites cannot read it, and it is deleted when you close Chrome; before that you can delete it yourself in the side panel. If you export it as a TXT or PDF file, the file is created on your device, without the Clozo server.
Translation
Clozo translates only after you have expressly agreed in the extension (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). Then:
- What is transferred: the text of finished caption pieces (at most eight pieces and 2,400 characters per request), up to two earlier pieces as context, the chosen target language, the extension version and the installation ID. No participant names, no meeting links, no audio and no video.
- The route: the text goes to the Clozo server at Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. It passes the text on to Vertex AI from Google Cloud (Google Cloud EMEA Limited, 70 Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2, Ireland), where the Gemini model translates it. Processing at Google is pinned to the EU multi-region: Google processes and stores the data there only in data centers in the European Union. The Clozo server runs in the Cloudflare data center closest to you and only passes the text on.
- What is stored: captions and translations are neither stored nor logged on the Clozo server. For the allowance I store, per installation, the minute of the last translation and the number of characters in that minute (against abuse), and the allowance used; daily totals (minutes, requests) without reference to individual installations are kept for cost control.
- At Google: Google does not use the content to train its models and does not share it with third parties. I have turned off the caching of inputs at Google for Clozo. Under Google Cloud's terms, inputs that automatic filters flag as possible abuse may be kept and reviewed by Google for up to 90 days in the EU. When transferring the data, Cloudflare processes your IP address to make the connection and protect the service.
You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future: in the extension under Settings → Privacy → "Withdraw agreement". Clozo then shows captions without translating them.
Data of other participants
The captions contain what all participants of a call say. The same applies to them as above: their words are only translated, not stored, and only you see the translation. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in being able to follow a conversation in another language (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR); participants' names do not leave your browser. Participants can object to the translation of what they say by asking you to switch Clozo off, or by contacting me (Art. 21 GDPR). Please tell the other participants that you are using Clozo, and switch translation off in conversations about especially sensitive topics such as health.
Feedback when you uninstall
When you remove Clozo, Chrome opens a page on clozo.app where you can voluntarily tell me why (a choice of reasons and an optional comment). Only your answers, the extension version and the page language are sent, without installation ID; I do not store your IP address. I use the answers to improve Clozo and delete them after twelve months (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, your consent by sending the form). Please do not write personal data into the comment.
Error reports
If Clozo cannot read Meet's captions because Google changed the page, the extension reports this to the Clozo server at most once a day: only the kind of problem and the extension version, without installation ID and without content. I keep daily totals of these reports for at most 90 days to ship an update quickly (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).
Limited use
Clozo uses data only to translate and display Google Meet's captions for you. There is no advertising, no selling and no sharing of data for other purposes, and nobody listens in on your meetings. The use of data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Fair free allowance
So that the daily free allowance cannot be multiplied with new installations, I also count the allowance used per network and day. The IP address (for IPv6 only its first half) is kept for this only as a keyed check value that changes every day, and is deleted after two days (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; legitimate interest: preventing abuse of the free allowance).
4. Purchases, license keys and emails
Payment through Link
If you buy Pro, the purchase buttons take you to the checkout page of Link, a service of the Stripe group. Link is the merchant of record for these purchases. Link processes your payment, billing and contact data as an independent controller to handle the payment, issue receipts, pay taxes and prevent fraud. Which Stripe company is responsible depends on your country; details are in Link's privacy policy. Link's cookie rules also apply on the checkout page.
Link makes the order data available to me in my Stripe account: name, email address, billing address, plan, amount and payment status. I do not receive full card details. I use this data to perform the contract, answer questions and process refunds (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR), and keep it as long as tax and commercial law require (Art. 6 (1) (c) GDPR).
License
For your license, I store on the Clozo server at Cloudflare the email address and language of the purchase, the license key only as a check value (hash) and its last five characters, the customer, subscription or payment IDs at Stripe, plan, term and status, the credits used. For each unlocked device, I add its installation ID and the times it was unlocked and last used (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR). So that the confirmation page can show you the key, it is kept in full for 24 hours after the purchase and deleted afterwards.
Emails
I send license keys, links for a new key and for the customer portal, and confirmations of cancellations and withdrawals through Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc., USA) as a processor. Resend processes your email address and the content of the email for this. I do not send advertising.
Forgotten key, cancellation and withdrawal
If you request a new key, I use your email address to find the matching license and send you a link; the new key is only created when you open it. The customer portal (“Manage subscription” in the extension) also opens only through a link sent to the address of the purchase. The confirmation of a cancellation contains a link to take it back. These links are stored only as a check value (hash) and deleted a day after they expire. So that nobody can use the forms to flood mailboxes, I count the emails sent to each address per day; the address is kept for this only as a keyed check value that changes every day, and is deleted after two days (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). If you cancel at “Cancel contracts here”, I store your name, email address, contract details, the type, reason and requested date of the cancellation. If you withdraw at “Withdraw from contract here”, I store your name, email address and contract details. I use this data to carry out and confirm cancellations and withdrawals and to be able to prove them (Art. 6 (1) (b), (c) and (f) GDPR).
5. Recipients and transfers to the USA
I use Vercel (website hosting), Cloudflare (Clozo server with the license database), Resend (emails) and Google Cloud (translation of Meet captions with Gemini (Vertex AI, processed in the EU)) as processors. Where these providers are based in the USA, transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework adequacy decision, under which the providers are certified, and additionally on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Link (Stripe) processes payment data as an independent controller; Stripe is also certified under the Data Privacy Framework.
6. Retention
I do not store meeting content. The minute of the last translation and its character count are deleted after two days, error reports after 90 days, feedback from the uninstall page after twelve months. The installation ID and the free allowance used today are kept as long as needed for the allowance and to prevent abuse. Check values for networks and email addresses are kept for two days, email links until a day after they expire. License, cancellation and withdrawal data are kept while the contract runs and for three years afterwards, until the regular limitation period ends; then they are deleted automatically. Records required by tax and commercial law are kept for up to ten years. Chrome removes the extension's local data when you uninstall Clozo.
7. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). You can withdraw consent at any time (Art. 7 (3)). Just send me an email; for questions about your installation, please include the support code the extension shows under Settings → Privacy. Never send the installation ID itself; it works like a password.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, for example the one responsible for me: Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen, Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover, Germany.
8. Automated decisions
There is no automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
